An APU stands for Accelerated Processing Unit — a type of processor developed by AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) that combines a CPU and a GPU on a single chip.
And that changes everything: in the long run, we’re going to have PCs running LLMs directly on-device. When used properly, it opens up an enormous range of possibilities for businesses.
The impact is local, with assistants that can operate even without an internet connection — but more importantly, if a company has a large fleet of machines equipped with APUs, it enables grid computing and the pooling of an incredible amount of processing power.
