SyDE Project

Presentation (video)

Introduction

The SyDE project was born of a few observations:

  • In the intelligence field, with a few exceptions, markets are mainly focused on the sale of licenses, without taking into account the reality of analysts. Analysts are then forced to "cobble together" solutions, many of which are not used (but do generate costs).
  • In-house development is often carried out by an insufficient number of people. And as soon as a developer is poached by a private company, the project dies.
  • The general quality of tools is not up to par, neither with technological resources, nor with research into intelligence theory and technology (in the intelligence sense).
  • We could also ask questions about certain aspects, such as corruption, cronyism, or the impact of slow tendering.

I started working on the SyDE project two years ago with the help of a former intelligence officer, with several lines of development:

  • Rethink the user interface like an airplane cockpit, using dedicated screens.
  • Rethink the technical architecture (cloudless, serverless).
  • Integrate an approach compatible with a Tempest environment.
  • Produce an Open Source platform
